Strata move rules

Many buildings require you to book the elevator and loading area, use protective pads, move only during set hours and sometimes pay a deposit. Get the rules from your property manager or strata early. See strata move rules.

Elevators

A booked elevator with pads speeds things up. Measure large furniture against the elevator and doorways before moving day.

Walk-ups and stairs

Older buildings without elevators mean every item goes up and down stairs. Tell the mover how many flights, since it affects crew size and time.

Basement and garden suites

Suites often have narrow side paths, low ceilings and tight turns. Mention them so the mover brings the right equipment.

Parking

Downtown and in busy neighbourhoods, loading zones are limited. Ask the building or the municipality about temporary parking.

Students

University and college moves cluster around late August, September and April. Book early if you're moving then.

Small moves

For a studio or one-bedroom, ask about smaller trucks or minimum charges.

Storage lockers and parkades

Don't forget items in storage lockers, bike rooms and parking stalls. Tell the mover where they are, since they may be on a different floor.
