From a Hudson's Bay farm

Captain Edward Langford arrived in 1851 to run one of the four Hudson's Bay Company farms near Victoria. A short-lived gold rush hit what's now Goldstream Provincial Park in the 1860s, and Victorians once took the train out to summer at Langford Lake. The city was incorporated in 1992.
