View Royal is a town of 11,575 people in 2021 between Victoria and the West Shore, with more than 700 hectares of parkland, including Thetis and Prior Lakes and parts of Esquimalt Harbour and Portage Inlet.

A royal view

Kenneth Mackenzie set up Craigflower Manor farm in the 1850s, and Dr. John Helmcken, Vancouver Island's first doctor, bought land here from the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1912, lots below Four Mile Hill were sold as View Royal for their view of the harbour. Hillside homes and suites with long stairs need extra hands; see loading and unloading.
